Our Regional Operations Manager Inger Aaltonen visited our Regional Managers at their offices around Finland…
Junior Achievement Finland (JA Finland), a leading organization in entrepreneurship education, appointed a Board for the 2021 term in its fall meeting on 16 December. The new Chair of the Board is Christina Dahlblom, D. Sc. (Econ.) and Professor of Practice.
The non-profit organization JA Finland, which supports a wide range of entrepreneurial, working life, and financial skills among children and youth, aims for nation-wide growth. Free JA programs, organized as part of the education provided at school, are available in 35 percent of Finnish schools and educational institutions and, despite the challenging COVID-19 year, they reached roughly 65,000 children and young people last school year. During the year, operations also started to expand significantly when JA Finland opened nine regional offices to lend support to its national office, following the example of other Nordic countries.
Multidisciplinary competencies from different sectors of society were selected in accordance with the proposal of the appointment committee to support the future growth of the organization and its operations. In addition to Dahlblom, the newly appointed Board consists of Mika Aho (Yksityisyrittäjäin säätiö), Executive Director Laura Juvonen (Technology Industries of Finland), Principal Aki Puustinen (Muurame Upper Secondary School), Adviser Jussi Karhunen (Finance Finland), Board Member Sirkku Soini (We Foundation), and Field Director Mari Kokko (Suomen Yrittäjät ry). In addition, members serving another term in the Board are JA Finland alumnus, entrepreneur Jyri Lindén (Nordic Business Forum), President Teemu Kokko (Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences), and Business Development Executive Camilla Laitinen (SEB).
”I have followed JA activities with excitement and admiration since 2015, and have had the privilege to take part both in the Uskalla Yrittää finals and the Job Shadow Day. In these events, the courage and creativity of the JA youth and their ability to commercialize their competencies have made a huge impression on me. I wish that as many young people as possible could adopt a similar attitude and skills. Especially in this day and age, developing and supporting entrepreneurial and working life skills as well as financial literacy in children and youth feels extremely important, regardless of the career path that they choose to take in the future. It is an honor to be able to help support JA Finland as it strengthens the 21st century skills of young people, and to be a part of the growth story of the organization and the important work that its experts do”, says Dahlblom, the new Chair of the Board.
The European network of JA Finland, Junior Achievement Europe, recognized long-term Board veterans by giving out Leadership and Service Awards near the end of November. This year, awards were given to Kari Laukkanen and Kari Björklöv (Fennia), who have been involved in the activities of JA Finland since the very beginning, in addition to Kati Lehesmaa (Taaleri), Joni Tikkanen (Elo), and Johanna Flythström (Roschier).
The Chair of the appointment committee was Max Mickelsson (Co-founders) and its members were Piia-Noora Kauppi (Finance Finland), Alexandra Pasternak-Jackson (Amcham), Kyösti Värri (Association of Finnish Municipalities), and Lari Raitavuo (NY alumnus, Erimover).
