9.5.2012 2012

Renewa Oy rewarded the winning team of NY Challenge with a 10,000-euro stipend. The Kirkonkylä vision, developed by students from Aalto University, was presented to the public today.

In NY Challenge the students’ mission was to find a solution to a challenge issued by Renewa: what would localized and environment-friendly energy production be like in the 2030’s in Finland and other countries?

The winning Kirkonkylä concept was developed by machinery and energy technology students Aleksi Haverinen, Ville Väänänen, Markus Ylänen Jani Renvall and Petteri Puumala from Aalto University.

The Kirkonkylä concept was centered on production of bioenergy by utilizing mixed fuels in small urban areas and alternative methods in committing residents to their area.

The winning team was awarded with a 10,000-euro fund for further development of the concept and they get to work on their idea with Renewa Oy’s executive board and professor Pekka Ahtila.

The concept was presented to the public today at “Energy in the future – who till pay?” event at the Finlandia Hall, sponsored by Renewa and Tekniikka & Talous magazine.
